We invite you to enjoy a relaxing break at 'The Horseshoe Guest House and Restaurant'. Our charming 18th Century Guest House, situated in the 'old town' area of the rural market town of Rhayader, with the river Wye just 3-4 minutes walk away.

Rhayader is known as the gateway to the 'Lakeland of Wales'.

We provide the perfect base from which to explore this magnificent area with its mountains, valleys, woods and lakes.

The Horseshoe in Rhayader is a 200 year-old spacious Welsh stone building with lots of character and charm, the lounges are furnished with deep comfortable chairs, and are heavily beamed with a log fire for chilly evenings adding to the atmosphere. The Horseshoe has been recently refurbished to a high standard offering the very best in modern facilities whilst retaining the original charm of this lovely old building.

The conservatory with it's walled garden are inviting and relaxing after a day on the move. The bedrooms, double and twin En Suite or single standard are decorated with flair in the 'countryside' style, all rooms have colour T.V complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and modern central heating.

Parking is no problem, we have our own large secure car park and secure cycle andmotorbike storage

The Horseshoe plot has a varied history, the house opposite in the car park used to be the old stables and later was developed into a petrol station, indeed the car park still has the old petrol tanks underground. The car park itself used to be a private road known as Butchers Row. If you look to our old garden wall you can still see the outline of the windows where there used to be a row of old widow cottages.

The plot is situated in the old part of Rhayader town, which not by accident is the best place to be because the whole area is on a bed of rock some 100ft above the river level. This means that you can sleep comfortably at night without any worries about flooding.

Local Activities & Attractions

A variety of attractions can be found close by to the Horseshoe Guest House in Rhayader. These include Clive Powells mountain Bike Centre and Gigrin Farm and of course the show piece the Elan Valley. This list is not exhaustive of what Rhayader offers so watch this space for even more updates.
ElanValley

For breathtaking scenery and a series of four dams set in spectacular countryside you cannot get better than the Elan Valley. Set in approx 16 square miles of countryside that offers such a variety of landscapes it cannot help but be a pleasure to all. Set just a couple of miles outside Rhayader the Elan Valley has been able to enthuse, cyclists, walkers, birdwathers and all manner of people for over a century.
